I was recently joined by Kelly Roach on my “Ah-ha Moments for Success” podcast, where she shared entrepreneurial wisdom and tips to achieve a work-life balance. Kelly is the founder and CEO of Kelly Roach International and one of the few female founders in the online space to build a company from zero to eight figures without debt, investors, or outside funding. A former NFL cheerleader and Fortune 500 executive, Kelly now empowers thousands globally to achieve financial and lifestyle freedom through entrepreneurship.
Kelly speaks about how our wisdom affects us both personally and professionally as we reminisce about how we met and the impact of my book, “Vitality Knocks,” which celebrates its 10th anniversary. This book is about a girl named Vitality, where readers are encouraged to dream and journal their revelations, leading to profound wisdom. The book’s proceeds go to the Lewy Body Foundation, in honour of my mother, who was misdiagnosed with the condition.
Lessons from Adversity
Kelly’s journey wasn’t without challenges. She shared a personal story about a health scare where she required major surgery, during which she found inspiration in unexpected places. Despite having to recover with her head down for nearly a month, Kelly discovered my podcast, which became a source of motivation and wisdom for her during that difficult time.
Perception vs. Expectation
One of the most profound insights Kelly shared was about the discrepancy between perception and expectation. Often, we expect things to go a certain way, and when they don’t, we assume something is wrong. Kelly explains that this mismatch is usually due to our limited understanding of the bigger picture. Life is like a symphony orchestra, where every piece, seen and unseen, comes together to create a beautiful masterpiece. It’s essential to recognize that sometimes what seems like a setback is actually just part of the bigger plan designed to fulfill our highest potential.
Growth and Readiness
Kelly emphasizes the importance of growth and readiness. Sometimes we need to go through certain experiences, even the hard ones, to be ready to receive what we truly desire. This growth process ensures that when we achieve our goals, we can sustain and maximize them. She highlights that life is a series of reinventions, building on what we’ve learned and using these new lessons to continually grow as a person.
Building a Business with Integrity
Kelly’s success is built on integrity and a deep commitment to high-quality service. She grew her coaching company to eight figures on one offer, one launch, and one business. She emphasizes the importance of focusing on a single business model until it reaches its full potential. Once she achieved that level, she began expanding into other businesses, always maintaining the highest standards of service.
Balancing Business and Personal Life
Kelly believes in running your own race and constructing a business that aligns with your life values. Putting family first is crucial, as they are irreplaceable. She stresses that growing a little slower to prioritize loved ones is a decision one will never regret. Achieving a healthy work-life balance is essential for long-term success and fulfillment.
Taking Imperfect Action
Another key piece of advice from Kelly is to take imperfect action. Focus on execution rather than perfection. The most successful people are those who continuously take action, learn from their mistakes, and iterate quickly. This approach ensures rapid progress and growth.
Kelly’s 3 Tips for Entrepreneurs and Executives
- Run Your Own Race: Build a business that aligns with your values and priorities.
- Put Family First: Prioritize your loved ones, as they are irreplaceable and critical to your overall happiness and success. Find the right work-life balance for you and your family.
- Take Imperfect Action: Execute quickly, learn from mistakes, and iterate. Progress is more important than perfection.
My conversation with Kelly Roach is filled with wisdom and practical advice for entrepreneurs and leaders. Her journey from corporate executive to eight-figure entrepreneur is inspiring, showcasing the importance of strategic thinking, integrity, and personal growth.
