Are you finding that your days are getting a hold of you? Are you spinning your wheels and getting nothing accomplished? You’re not alone! Actually, 75% of Americans say they can’t keep up with the growing fast pace in today’s society. Most people end up feeling burnt out and still not accomplishing what they want.

In order to get what we want, we need to take the necessary time to set our priorities, focus on them and take action in accomplishing them. Pretty simple, huh? Well, not always……

Previous to me joining the companies I am working with and coaching currently, they would write daily “to do lists”, however; they did not have the pieces of the puzzle to fuse the action, focus and accountability to make it all happen and ultimately, succeed. Coaching offers that missing puzzle piece.

Here are some tips on getting what you want in the workplace:

  1. Make sure that you have written your “To Do” list in a way that is leading you directly to your goal. So many of us jam our days with tasks that can be delegated and waste our time on things that do not take us to where we need to go. Review your lists carefully and evaluate if it is clearly leading you to your top goal.  For example, it isn’t effective to be working on the finance of a project, if finance isn’t even your area of work and marketing is. You are just wasting time. Be smart and delegate where you can.
  1. Be realistic about the time everything takes. You want to do your tasks correctly. For example, if you have to travel for a particular part of your job in order to complete a task, then you need to build in travel time. This is part of task which needs to be factored in as well which is probably forgotten about often.  Many people will set the focused tasks correctly; however, will then add too many tasks in one day which ultimately is impossible to accomplish. You never feel like you have completed or achieved anything this way. In the process of goal setting, it is imperative that you plan for various things to take a bit longer than scheduled for and/or build in some extra time for travelling between meetings to ensure safety. In saying that it’s important to plan for extra time—for your own sanity, DO keep those meetings focused and try to stay on schedule throughout your whole day as well. Make yourself aware of any time wasted!
  1. Balance your goal setting so you don’t get burnt out.  Take a walk at lunch. Enjoy time with a co-worker. Schedule time in for things you want to do throughout your day. Doing all of these thing will help keep you in a good mindset so that you are able to cope when something is added to your work plate at the last minute. You won’t become derailed. Having balance at work makes for a happy and more productive person!
